How to stay happy and healthy during business travel

Business travel can – and should – be so much more than just a series of meetings and deadlines in a new environment! In fact, with the right approach it can be an opportunity to enhance both your physical and mental health. Whether you're a seasoned business jetsetter or you're travelling for work for the first time, maintaining a healthy balance between work and self-care is key. From sticking to healthy routines and enjoying nutritious meals, to staying fit and having fun, we explore how to stay happy and healthy during business travel.

Stick to healthy habits

Maintaining a positive routine is essential during business travel! Although travelling for work can of course disrupt your daily habits, sticking to familiar routines helps keep you grounded and supports your mental health. Start each day with a consistent morning ritual – whether it’s a workout, meditation or a healthy breakfast (or all three!). This will help set a positive tone for the day ahead.

During your day – no matter how demanding your schedule – prioritise taking regular, short breaks to avoid burnout symptoms and keep your energy levels up! Sleep is always important but it can be especially so when travelling for work. We recommend packing ear plugs for your trip, which can come in handy for a solid night's sleep, but also if you want to concentrate on work in one of our flexible coworking spaces.

Remember, the key is balance; allow yourself flexibility but strive to maintain a core set of healthy habits. We know that work can pull you in all sorts of directions but, by prioritising these habits, you can better manage the stresses that occur when travelling for work.

Eat and drink right – feel great

The demands of business travel can make it tempting to rely on quick, unhealthy snacks, but maintaining a balanced diet is essential for your energy levels and mental health during those taxing work trips! Preparing your own meals allows you to stay in control of what you eat and whip up a nutritious meal or snack whenever you need, keeping you fuelled throughout your day. At The Social Hub, you can enjoy the luxury of a private kitchen by booking a Deluxe Studio Room.

If you’re looking for a more social dining experience, The Social Hub also offers work cafés and restaurants where you can choose from a menu of healthy, freshly prepared dishes. These spaces provide a convenient way to stay nourished, helping you to perform at your best while travelling for work.

Alongside healthy meals, making sure you stay hydrated is key for staving off jet lag and keeping you fresh for work or city exploring. Make sure to keep your water bottle filled! At The Social Hub, you’ll find refill stations located in the lobby as well as glasses for a quick cup of water.

Connect. Engage. Thrive

Prioritising your mental health during business travel is just as important as staying in good physical shape. Being on the road can be a lonely experience at times, so it’s a good idea to try and connect with others while away from home. Taking time to be sociable, whether by simply chatting with new people or networking, will enhance your well-being and make your trip memorable for all the right reasons.

The Social Hub is specially designed to foster these connections. With communal spaces that encourage interaction, it’s easy to meet like-minded professionals and enjoy meaningful conversations. From coworking and meeting spaces to lively event programmes, our destinations across Europe offer plenty of opportunities to build your network or connect with fellow travellers.

If you’re at one of our destinations at the start of the week, then Monday Morning Coffee is a great way to connect with others and set intentions for the days ahead. This sociable ritual is available to all community members, across all our locations – just ask a team member and they’ll point your in the right direction.

I can get my work done here, I can socialise, I can invite a client for a coffee, I can have private calls, work out, network and even have an after work beer or join one of the many activities."

Healthy body, healthy mind

We all know that a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, so it’s important (whenever possible!) to keep up your physical well-being while travelling for work. Incorporating exercise into your daily routine doesn’t have to be complicated – even a quick, low-energy exercise routine can make a big difference. Try and find time for simple exercises like stretching in your hotel room, or explore your new surroundings with a light jog or brisk walk. Consistency is key, so aim to move your body regularly, even if your schedule is tight.

For those who prefer a more structured workout, The Social Hub offers fully-equipped 24/7 gyms to help you stay on track with your physical fitness. Whether you’re into cardio and strength training, or just want a light session on an exercise bike, the gym at The Social Hub will provide everything you need. Prefer a group fitness session? Check out our weekly schedule of collective workouts including yoga, boxing, kickboxing, high-intensity interval training and more!

It’s all about balance

Staying happy and healthy during business travel involves balancing all these aspects in a way that works best for you and your work schedule. Just don’t forget to have some fun along the way! Explore local hotspots, check out our events or simply soak up the vibe in a shared space. At The Social Hub, travelling for work can be a blend of both work and play.

The opportunity to meet and connect with professionals and students from all over the world is an invaluable added benefit.”
